Oakland: 459 8th - 8th and Broadway Mixed-User Now Under Construction

Another parking lot in downtown Oakland bites the dust, as a new mixed-use building is now underway on a highly visible corner. Located on 8th & Broadway, the new structure will contain 50 housing units along with 4,000 square feet of retail space. It will rise just across from some lovely Old Oakland buildings and will surely be a positive addition to the burgeoning restaurant and retail scene that has developed in this neighborhood.

Though initially a project by Signature Development Group, the site recently sold to a Marin developer according to a piece in the San Francisco Business Times. Great to see another project underway in downtown Oakland!

Uninspired architecture much? Does every new building in Oakland have to look like this?

I hope these are incomplete renderings, because that just looks like a blank wall at street level with no contribution to street life.
