Oakland: 2400 Valdez - First Renderings Emerge For Large Mixed-User in Broadway Valdez District

While we first posted about a new development that is planned for a long and narrow lot in Oakland's Broadway Valdez area back in December, the first renderings just came out for this large mixed-user.

Slated to rise along Valdez Street between 24th and 27th, this 7-story structure would add 224 new apartments to the area with over 23,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. The Hanover Company and TCA Architects are working together on this project which is the same team that is behind another planned mixed-use building just across the street.

Of note is that some streetscape improvements are planned to go along with this development. In addition to the usual sidewalk improvements, a "slip lane" at the northern edge of the new building would be closed and turned into a public plaza. This change will hopefully make it easier for people who are walking down both Valdez and 27th as an unnecessary crossing would be removed.

The project is currently in the design review phase so there will likely be some tweaks to the building's look but overall this should nicely complement the other developments in this area.
