Oakland: 3250 Hollis - Major Housing and Live/Work Development Coming to Oakland/Emeryville Border

Rendering: Madison Park
Almost a full city block in West Oakland's Dogtown neighborhood is going to be redeveloped. Madison Park is planning a 4-story mixed-use structure with 94 residential units, 30 live/work units as well as 2,900 square feet of retail space for the block bounded by 34th, Haven, Peralta and Hollis Streets. Almost all of the current structures on that block will be demolished except for the "flat iron" building on the corner of Peralta and Hollis which will be refurbished. Another building that will remain is on the 34th Street side of the project, presumably because it is not owned by the developer.

It's great to see that such a large and fairly drab block will get a nicely designed mixed-use structure. Residents of this new building will be just a short walk from the big box stores of the East Bay Bridge Shopping Center. Also, just a few blocks away are several new and under construction buildings in Emeryville's Triangle neighborhood.

Though currently still going through the approval process, the plan is to break ground in the Fall of 2016 with an estimated completion date in early 2018.
