For those of you've been hoping for more highrise buildings in downtown Oakland, your wish may come true as a new 16-story building is proposed for the corner of 14th and Alice in the Lakeside neighborhood. Little is known about this project at the moment other than it's supposed to include 126 residential units as well as 3,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. The project is just within the boundaries of the Lake Merritt Station Area Plan which means that it should be approved fairly quickly.

It's also worth noting that there was a pre-recession plan for this site. The previous proposal would have included a 35-story structure with 198 condos. Architectural firm YHLA came up with some conceptual renderings for the tower back in 2006 (see below). Hopefully we'll get to see some renderings of the new version soon!
