Berkeley: 2150 Berkeley Way Development to Start Construction Soon

Rendering: UC Berkeley
Back in May, we reported that a new UC Berkeley academic building is slated to rise on the large surface parking lot on Shattuck between Hearst and Berkeley Way. Though the initial groundbreaking date for the WRNS Studio designed building was Summer 2015, the site continued to be used as a parking lot all through fall. Now, signs have been posted that the parking lot will close permanently on December 21 which surely (hopefully) means that construction work will begin shortly after.

While it's always nice to see another surface parking lot disappear, it's especially satisfying when it's a surface lot in such a high profile location. Kudos to the university for including ground floor retail spaces in this development which will help tie together downtown Berkeley with the Gourmet Ghetto area just north of this site.
