Oakland: 5175 Broadway - Merrill Gardens Getting Ready for Some Crane Action

Though I posted a construction update of the Merrill Gardens development in Rockridge only a few weeks ago, I couldn't help but stop and peek over the fence when I was passing by the lot on Saturday and, lo and behold, I discovered that the base for a crane had been poured. Though cranes have become a familiar sight in San Francisco over the last couple of years, they have been almost entirely absent in the East Bay. Let's hope this is the first of many cranes to go up in Oakland and beyond.

Other than the crane base, construction work appears to be humming along nicely at this site and it looks like it won't be long before work will start moving vertically. In case you missed my previous post, Merrill Gardens will include 127 assisted-living units as well as ground floor retail space in a 5-story building. It is across the street from mixed-user 4901 Broadway and the Rockridge Shopping Center redevelopment.
