Berkeley: The Roost/2029 Blake Street 5-Story Mixed-Use Building Coming to South Berkeley

The densification of Berkeley is increasingly moving south along Shattuck as we are seeing yet another mixed-use building proposed for the area between Downtown Berkeley and the Ashby BART station. 2029 Blake, also know as "The Roost," is a proposed 5-story mixed-use building that would include 72 apartments, 3 live/work units as well as 2,200 square feet of retail/restaurant space. Though the development still needs final approvals from the city, current designs for the Devi Dutta Architecture designed development show a varied and attractive facade with an earth tone color palette that mirrors other mixed-use buildings going up in Berkeley. As always, designs are subject to change as the development makes its way through the design review process. Located just west of Shattuck, the building would be near several housing and mixed-use buildings currently under construction, including Parker Place (former Berkeley Honda), Garden Village and 2107 Dwight. All of these projects will bring hundreds of new residents to this area which will hopefully help activate sidewalks and create more of a neighborhood feel along this rather quiet stretch of Shattuck.
