Berkeley: Parker Place/Former Honda Dealership/2598-2600 Shattuck Construction Update

Major housing developer Lennar is currently working on bringing 155 units to a rather dreary stretch of Shattuck. The development consists of two 5-story buildings on the site of the former Honda dealership. Apparently deemed  worthy of preservation, the existing facade of the dealership will be incorporated into the design. The project is designed by Sacramento-based firm LPAS. Retail spaces will line the ground floor of the development which should help to liven up this quiet part of Berkeley's main street.
Construction is well underway as seen below. It looks like both lots have been cleared and the remaining parts of the facade are propped up. Shoring and excavation work for the two levels of underground parking should begin soon.
I'm very excited for this project as we are finally seeing development push south along Shattuck. Some of the most underused lots in Berkeley are found on this stretch of Shattuck and the potential to create more housing and a walkable environment is really huge.
